The Tug Restaurant

A location like no other, that needs to be experienced firsthand.

Nestled between the cold Atlantic Ocean and the harsh Namibian coastline lies a shining pearl of warm Namibian hospitality.

Dining at the Tug is a rustic yet authentic experience, definitely not fine dining. The Tug takes you on a culinary journey, renowned for its home-made freshness, great locally sourced seafood, fresh produce, tempting desserts and a vast selection of South African Wines. Our menu evolves regularly.

MENU

Our locally sourced, ever evolving, and richly diverse menu is what makes the Tug different to any other restaurant in Namibia. The Tug prides itself in selecting only top grades of export fish and meat together with fruit and vegetables specifically hydroponically grown for us in the Swakopmund Desert. We are the first Restaurant in Namibia to prepare our food in the charcoal fired Josper with charcoal specifically prepared for us from the flavorful mopane wood of the Kunene region.

The Tug sources local export quality produce. The wild caught Fish varieties such as John Dory, Kingklip, West Coast Sole, Monk, fresh Kabeljou and deep-water Hake are sustainably caught under licence. Our world-renowned Oysters are cultivated in the rich cold and sheltered waters of Walvis Bay, and the West Coast Rock Lobster is caught off the coast of Luderitz.

Our seafood dishes are unique in Namibia such as the famous John Dory Goujons served with a home-made tartar sauce and our Crispy Kingklip Burgers prepared with prime Export grade Kingklip fillets. Both the Panko crusted Kingklip with a Pea mint puree and the Moroccan Monk have proven to be very popular. For the more health-conscious patron, all our lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers are hydroponically grown in the Swakop River and our asparagus, fresh herbs, Olives and Olive oil (first cold pressed extra virgin) are locally sourced. If crustaceans are your thing try our Lobster and Prawn dishes. For some comfort try our delectable Garlic Prawns in melted Cheese. Lastly the slow roasted tomato soup is freshly made and roasted in the oven with basil and tomatoes grown locally.

Get into the real vein of the local Namibian experience and sample O'Kapana, a dish comprising Beef strips accompanied by diced Onion and Tomato, fresh chopped chili peppers, "Vetkoek" and pap. The secret O'Kapana spice is what makes the dish.

Our 3 week wet-aged meat cuts of beef are carefully and exclusively matured by us such as Fillet, Beef Sirloin and Rump. Rump is prepared differently to any other Nambian restaurant and cut into steaks either as a Centre steak cut with no fat or as a Picanha steak made famous initially in Brazil, then later in Portugal and the United States of America also known as the Rump cap with its delicious flavorsome and tender meat covered by crispy fat. Try our delicious Springbok Cordon Bleu or the famous Panko and Parmesan Beef fillet.

Be that daring sea dog and indulge in our home-made Decadent Chocolate Fondant or our local take on Baklava which we call Namaklava; a dish with Marula nuts, Pistachios and Almonds, served with a Greek Yogurt Ice-Cream and a shot of Amarula. Other enticing options are the Dark Chocolate Brownie Sundae, The Frozen Coffee Mousse with home-made churros, Mango Crumble, Dark Cherry Cobbler with Black pepper ice cream or a variety of home-made ice-creams crafted exclusively for us. End your meal with a cup of our exclusively blended coffee crafted for us by two Beards Roastery. A rich smooth blend of Ethiopian, Indonesian and Brazilian beans.

No boat docks until the rope is tied and here we do that with over 43 choices of wine by the glass and over 100 bottled varieties from South Africa and exquisite Champagnes from France. A full bar service with world premium brands is available and the ever popular freshly made cocktails are a must to compliment the sounds of the waves or the occasional Cessna doing a fly past, the breath-taking sunsets from our Sundowner Terrace and the persistent roar of the ever changing Atlantic Ocean.
