Dining here is rustic and definitely not fine dining. It takes you on a culinary journey renowned for its freshness, great local seafood, tantalizing desserts and a vast array of South African and International Wines.

Designed and built around the original oil-fired Danie Hugo Tug boat which was constructed in the ship yards of Port Glasgow Scotland, she saw her final operating days in 1984 and then received her resting place and new lease of life on the 12th December 1993 to become what is known today as The Tug restaurant. The Bar and upper Bridge is where diners can experience the original and authentic Danie Hugo Tug Boat.

Not only is this venue situated on the very frontline of Swakopmund with unforgettable panoramic views of the Atlantic ocean, it is also a landmark for folk to frequent, to unwind, sample the culinary treasures on offer and to hear and watch the ocean at play.

Locally sourced and richly diverse our menu includes interesting combinations of camembert, fig and pistachio, smoked salmon tartare, to the world renowned oysters cultivated in the rich sheltered waters of Walvis Bay and freshly grown local asparagus when in season.

The Tug sources local produce and the wild caught fish varieties such as John Dory, Kingklip, West Coast Sole, Angel fish, Monk , fresh Kabeljou and deep water Hake are caught and produced sustainably by our Namibian Fishing Industry.

Be adventurous and sample fresh Hake dusted with a fine Beef Biltong, or the Coconut kabeljou encased in Phyllo pastry followed by the home-made Crème Brûlée for dessert.

All palates are respected here and a generous array of Vegetarian options are available with Beetroot Carpaccio topped with Pine Kernels and a delicate Goats Cheese dressing or our home-made Greek Style Spanakopita.

Tasty 3 week Dry-aged meat cuts are carefully and exclusively matured for us such as Beef fillet, Rump and Sirloin. Our local game varietals include Springbok and Oryx.

Get into the real vein of the local Namibian experience and sample O’Kapana, an authentic dish comprising of Beef cubes with diced onion and tomato, garlic bread and sided with fresh chili and a combination of secret O’Kapana spices.

Be that daring Sea Dog and relish the home-made Decadent Chocolate Fondant or the local take on Baklava, namely Namaklava with Marula nuts, Pistachio and almonds, served with a Greek yogurt Ice-cream and a shot of Amarula.

Other enticing options are the Ebony Ivory Mousse, Traditional Malva pudding, Marula Nuts with cream Cheese or over 14 various interesting home-made ice-creams crafted exclusively for us.

No Boat docks until the Rope is Tied and here we do that with over 14 choices of wine by the glass to choose from or over 150 bottled varieties from South Africa and superb Spanish Riojas and Tempranillo wines, to exquisite Champagnes from France.

A full bar service with world premium brands are available and the ever popular freshly made cocktails are a must to compliment the screech of a Sea Gull overhead, the breath taking sunsets from our Sundowner Terrace and the persistent roar of the ever changing Atlantic Ocean.

Daily from; 16:30 to 22:00
Pick-up time will always be 20min prior to the reservation. Please see below further conditions.
Drop-off will depart the restaurant at 20 past, 20 to and on the hour depending on the next available time slot.


For pickup reservations call our reception on +264 64 402356 - pickup reservations close at 16:00 for the day.
For drop off inform your server or reception in the restaurant.
All payments will be made at the restaurant and no payment will be accepted in the vehicle.

Conditions of Service:

  • Only for customers that have a valid reservation at the Tug Restaurant. You may be required to show your reservation confirmation.
  • Not always guaranteed due to high demand or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Subject to seating availability.
  • Operating only in Swakopmund up to Mile 4 and Rossmund.
  • Rossmund and Ocean View N$40 per person per trip.
  • Swakopmund N$25 per person per trip.
  • Customers must be at the pick-up point 20min prior to reservation time. Due to strict schedule times the driver will be unable to wait for more than 3 minutes. Due to operational requirements the driver may arrive up to 15min late without notice.
